Idling truck engines cost truckers money...and not just in lost fuel costs. New laws are being debated in states like Michigan to crack down on the pollution made by idling trucks. That is making Idle reduction technology a big business as truckers try to protect their profits.
According to the Fleet Owner website, there are over 40 aftermarket solutions for idle reduction, ranging from integrated auxiliary power units (APUs) to new hybrid solutions. With so many choices in idle reduction technology, many truckers are mixing and matching systems from different manufacturers.
You can create your own custom system or you can buy a truck that has idle reduction built in, with manufacturers such as Freightliner now offering systems on selected models.
You can browse the selection of trucks with idle control on Truck Trader Online.
