Oshkosh Side Roll Protection System acts automatically to protect truckers

AutoCentral.com features a story on Oshkosh Truck Corporation and first Side Roll Protection system for front-discharge concrete mixers.

As part of Oshkosh's Safety @ 360ยบ initiative, the Side Roll Protection System is designed to protect truckers in the event of a rollerver, which account for 60% of truck occupant fatalities.

The new system uses a sensor to detect a rollover by monitoring the vehicle’s roll angle and rate. If the sensor detects a potential rollover, a sequence of safety devices are activated.

During a rollover, the truck takes programed actions to protect the driver, including tightening the seat belt, lowering the seat, and deploying airbags.
