Kenworth Truck Company has announced an expansion of its industry-leading product line with the introduction of the Cummins Westport ISL G natural gas engine for the Kenworth T800 short hood and W900S models. Now available for order, Kenworth’s natural gas models are focused on vocational, municipal, and pickup and delivery applications.

The ISL G engine operates on either compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG), both of which are cost effective, low carbon, and low emissions fuels. Rated at 320 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque, the ISL G is 2010 compliant with a maintenance-free, three-way catalyst and does not require the use of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or a diesel particulate filter (DPF).
CNG and LNG fuel tanks can be configured to suit customer applications and range requirements. Kenworth T800 short hood and W900S natural gas trucks, which use Allison transmissions, may qualify for a U.S. federal tax credit of up to $32,000 and for state and federal grant funding.

In 2009, Kenworth became the first truck manufacturer to receive the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Air Excellence award in recognition of its environmentally friendly products.

A New Commercial Truck Trader Homepage For 2010
Commercial Truck Trader is getting ready to launch a new homepage for 2010! We are doing this for three main reasons.
First, the new homepage will make it easier for truck buyers to find the inventory they are looking for. Second, we are launching search engine-friendly elements that make it easier for Google, Yahoo!, Bing, and other search engines to see us. And finally, we are incorporating some terrific content that our users are interested in.
"The new site will offer a more business to business feel to our customers," says Product Developer Ryan Feber, "This will showcase more listings with greater variety on the site. And it will grow traffic to our site."
The new CommercialTruckTrader.com homepage is the first of several product enhancements and new product launches coming in 2010.

The Port of Los Angeles Gives Extension On Deadline For Cleaner Trucks
The Port of Los Angeles has announced that the Los Angeles Harbor Commission has approved a second set of modifications to the Port of Los Angeles tariff to allow truckers to continue operating their existing trucks past the January 1, 2010 ban date.

According to The Port of Los Angeles, the tariff modifications are designed to be consistent with a Drayage Truck Rule Advisory issued by the California Air Resources Board on December 8, 2009 which will allow truckers that have purchased a new truck or retrofit with private funds to continue to operate their existing truck until April 30, 2010 while waiting for the new truck to be delivered or the retrofit to be installed.
The Port of Los Angeles tariff will allow the same extension as the Air Resources Board for purchase of a truck with private funds. To qualify for the extension based on private purchase of a retrofit, it must be a Level 3 retrofit and it must also have a 25% NOx reduction capability in order to be able to operate in the Port of Los Angeles.
